U-Pick Sweet Peaches There is no U-Pick Peach in 2020

We specialize in tree-ripened, fresh, sweet, juicy peaches and we invite you and your family to create some family memories of picking that perfect peach off the tree and experiencing the delight of that first bite with juice dripping down your face and arm! Enjoy the beauty of our farm as we drive you to the ripest peaches on our free hayrides. Peach trees can be picked easily from the ground, so no ladders are needed.

Peach Varieties available for U-Pick:

  • RED HAVEN - August 4 - 20 - This variety was released in the 1950's in South Haven, Michigan at the Michigan State Peach Breeding Program. It was the best variety for the time but the newer varieties are very much improved in flesh quality and flavor. Red Haven is still the most planted peach in Michigan because of customer recognition. It is a semi-cling peach, meaning the pit does stick to the flesh if not completely ripe on most years, which can make canning more difficult.

  • STARFIRE - August 7 - 20 - A new superior firm flesh peach that is great for fresh eating, canning, freezing and baking. The beautiful 80% red skin peach stores well in the refrigerator so you can be eating fresh peaches for 2 weeks if you wish. Starfire has a great, sweet peach flavor and is a true freestone (it does come off the pit). The size is large (2 1/2" to 2 3/4"). The first great overall peach of the season.

  • ALLSTAR - August 20 - 31 - A very attractive and superior quality new variety peach. Great flavor, firm flesh, completely freestone, and stores well in the refrigerator. Excellent for canning, freezing, baking or just eating. Does not brown when cut. Allstar has 80% red skin on a large peach (2 1/2" to 2 3/4").

  • SUNCREST - August 24 - 31 - This is an older variety which used to be my favorite peach before the new Stellar varieties were developed. Suncrest is a very attractive peach with 90% dark red skin color and good peach flavor. The flesh is firm but not as firm as the new varieties. It is good for canning, freezing, and eating.

  • BLUSHINGSTAR (White Flesh Peach) - August 25 - September 10 - This is a new variety WHITE flesh peach with many of the superb qualities of a yellow flesh peach. Do not compare this to any other white peach you have ever tried before. The 80% dark pinkish red skin over a light pink and white background is just beautiful. The size is large at 2 1/2" to 3". The flesh is very firm, completely different from the soft, older white flesh varieties. Blushingstar can be prepared like a yellow peach as far as freezing and eating. But when used for baking, it has a very sugary flavor, so experiment yourself. Great flavor and an aroma you will be smelling all the way home. Completely freestone.

  • CLING (Baby Gold Type) - All of August - We have several types of Cling peaches available. Cling means the peach does not come off the pit, so you have to cut it off. Many customers love these peaches because they have a firmer and more rubbery fruit than many freestone peaches, making them great for canning.

  • GLOWINGSTAR - September 1 - 10 - This new variety is very large at 2 3/4" to 3 1/2" with 60% dark red skin and bright yellow background. Glowingstar has very firm flesh, freestone, very good flavor and stores well in the refrigerator. It is a beautiful peach that does not turn brown when cut.

  • AUTUMNSTAR - September 15 - 30 - This new variety is a very improved Fayette. The large peach (2 3/4" to 3 1/4") has 60% red skin color and a great flavor for anytime of the year, but especially for this late season. This peach has firm flesh and stores well, so you can still be eating fresh peaches even after peach season has ended.

These varieties and dozens of others are also available already picked at our farm market, including other delicious Stellar peach varieties.

**Availability is dependent on the weather, so please call ahead to get a better idea on ripening times. Ripening dates

can vary as much as 2 weeks earlier or later from year to year.

Please come visit us in September & October for APPLE HARVEST!!

Welcome to Fruit Acres

A Note from Annette and Randy:  Saturday August 1, 2020

SPECIAL TODAY UNTIL GONE! Tree Ripe Local Glenglo Peaches for $24.99 half bushel with basket! They need to be put in a refrigerator or used right away. They are tree ripe!

HI Everyone! I am very sorry there is NOTHING  for YOU to pick off the trees UNTIL  U-Pick Apples starting September 11. We are not able to have Peach U-Pick this year because of the virus. There is no way to social distance everyone.  But we are not that busy for Apple U-Pick and we will have enough room for everyone to social distance and get their hayrides to the orchard. Our Governor won't let us.

Fruit Acres Farm Market is open everyday 9am to 7pm.

We have local peaches this weekend! They are from Fennville, Michigan which is 40 minutes north of here. We didn't have enough of our own peaches ready now for you, so we worked with a friend farmer of ours to get Local Peaches for you this weekend. They are called Glenglo, they are pretty and large, but they don't come completely off the pit. They are sweet (but not as sweet as ours). Some of them are starting to get soft, so they may be used this weekend. Prices are $2.49 per pound, $9.99 for 4 quart basket (basket not included), $18.99 peck, $36.99 half bushel (about 25 pounds), the basket is $3 more. We can put them in a free box for you if you want. We finally have enough to sell half bushels of peaches.

Now for Red Haven Peaches fresh from our farm. We will start selling our own Red Haven Peaches (just a few) next week. This is just the first picking and we will only have a few. We are hoping there is some Red Haven Peaches from our farm for sale in half bushels starting next Saturday August 8. I would wait until the week of August 10 to get mine though.

We now have Local Peaches 'n' Cream Sweet Corn  is here for $.59 ear or $5.99 dozen. It is Delicious! This corn is from our Regular Sweet Corn Farmer and we should have it now through Labor Day (I hope).  Also Sweet Local Blueberries (10 pound box $27.99). This is the peak of Local Blueberry Season with my favorite kind, Bluecrop. We will have Local Blueberries for about 2 weeks more.  Delicious Sweet Large Local Cantaloupe are on for $3.99 each. I only sell the Honeyrock type of Cantaloupe (if I have a choice).  Local Red Raspberries will be around for a few more weeks, available by the pint for $5.99 or $55 for a 12 pint flat.  but Black Raspberries and Blackberries are done for this year.  We have local Pickles for $1.59 pound or $25 for half bushel. I mostly have 5 inch size pickles, but I can get smaller pickles (about 3 inches) on order for $35. I have fresh Dill for the Pickles sold by the stalk when I can get it. I do not have it now. Local Slicing Round  Tomatoes are now available for $1.99 pound or $30 for 25 pound box.  We do  have Local Sweet Grape Tomatoes ($2.99 pint) and Local Roma Tomatoes for $1.69 pound or $25 for 25 pound box. Local Green Tomatoes for frying for $1.99 pound.

Local Peppers have started now. We have Large Green Bell Peppers for $.99 each, and Gypsy (Sweet Stuffing), Jalapeno (hot), Poblano (mildly spicy), Serrano (Very Hot) and Hot Banana Peppers for $1.49 pound.

Since we don't have many plums on our farm this year, I have Sweet Blue Eating Plums now from my 92 year old farmer friend from Covert michigan. They are $6.99 quart. They are delicious when soft. If they are not soft, just put them on the counter like peaches until they get soft. That is the way I like to eat them, with lots of juice.

Local Zuchini & Yellow Squash, Comet (Patty Pan) Squash, Local Okra and Kohlrabi, Local Cucumbers. Local Beautiful Sunflowers ($1.99 stem) and Local Beautiful Glads ($5.99 big bunch with 10 stems and Local Bouquets for $5.99 each.

We have alot of Beautiful Local Aloe Vera for $12 each and Herb Plants for from  $4.99 & up each. Lots of Local Raw or Regular Honey, and Michigan Frozen Tart Sour Pie Cherriees  $7.99 for 2 1/2 pounds. The Take and Bake Fruit Pies taste almost as good as Homemade (nothing is as good as Grandmas) and Local Gouda & Brie Cheese are here.

We do have Sweet Seedless Watermelon from Arkansas now for $4.99 each. Michigan Watermelon will still be a few weeks off.

Covid-19 Update

We are a open air Farm Market with air flowing from all 4 sides of our market. That means we are outside. According to Michigan Governor Greatchen Witmer Executive order #2020-110 on June 1, "Any individual who leaves his place of residence must: Wear a face covering over his/her nose and mouth when in any ENLCOSED PUBLIC SPACE".  Our Farm Market is not enclosed AND we have plenty of room for Social Distancing, so we and you as a customer are not required to wear a mask. But Please stay 6 feet apart when in checkout line.

I can get Frozen Michigan Sour Cherries  that are individually frozen and pitted. They are not all frozen together, so you can scoop out exactly how many you want. You will have to order them with me atleast 2 days ahead.  I will have 2 1/2 lb bags on hand all the time, but you have to order any larger sizes. Sour Tart Pie Cherries 2 1/2 lb bags are $7.99 ea, 10 lbs (in 5lb bags) for $22.99, 20 lbs (in 5lb bags) for $39.99, or 30 lbs box for $49.99. I can get these Sour Cherries all year long, so there is no hurry in getting them.

U-Pick Apples - Open Weekends from September 11 to October 11. There is no admission, free wagon ride, free playground and picnic area. The U-Pick Apples you take with you are $.99 per pound. We have lots of Apples for both U-Pick and the farm market this year. We will have lots of  Silken, Early Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Sunrise, Early Golden Delicious, Experimental Apple and Blondee. The apples that only have a few apples on them are Pristine, Red Delicious, Early Gold, Jonagold, SnowSweet, Swiss Gourmet, McIntosh, Dandy Red, and Cameo. We will have lots of Honeycrisp Apples at the farm market but we never have them for U-Pick.

APRICOTS - I am very sorry and disappointed to tell you that there are NO Apricots this year on the trees. I hope they have some in northern Michigan so we can atleast get a taste!

PLUMS - There will be some sweet plums from our farm but there will not be alot of them. There may be more Blue Plums in the fall than during the summer.

Sheepnose Apples - We are the largest grower of Sheepnose Apples in the world. That is not saying much. Sheepnose is also know as Chenango or Strawberry Apples. Sheepnose is very similar to Transparent Apples but they are pink outside instead of green. They are a very old variety from the 1800's that are used for Applesauce by Amish families. They are a very soft apple that 95% of people do not like to eat, they just make a slightly pink applesauce. It is very good and smooth applesauce. They will be ready around August 20 and only for sale by the bushel for $10. I will not have them at the stand, only by order please.
